Welcome to another travel Blog. This year the dates have been bookended in order to cross the Atlantic again on the Queen Mary 2 and then to attend the last week of the Canterbury Festival. I have added four nights in New York to the beginning to experience again some of that amazing city. It is such a contrast to the small city that we live in - Victoria, BC, Canada.
In New York I have a ticket for "Les Contes d'Hoffmann" at the Metropolitan Opera and for the play "McNeal" also at the Lincoln Center.
On the Queen Mary II the UK's "National Symphony Orchestra" will be playing concerts.
Before crossing the Atlantic the QM II will visit Newport Rhode Island and Boston - a nine day voyage instead of the usual seven.
In London I have a ticket for "The Real Thing" a play by Tom Stoppard at the Old Vic and an evening concert "Bach by Candlelight" at St Mary Le Grand church on the Strand.
As in trips in the last few years my wife and life companion Penny has decided to stay home. She has an application in to foster a cat to replace me!😻
As one gets older one realizes that one does not have as much energy for travel and this year the pace of events will be planned accordingly. And who knows - with an unknown lifespan, how often one has the energy to enjoy this type of travel.
I am looking forward to meeting up with old friends and family along the way. I am particularly looking forward to getting together with my four nephews and nieces in the UK for a reunion. I will be attending the last concert of the Canterbury Festival on November 2nd with them. We will hear the Monteverdi Vespers performed by the Canterbury Choral Society in the nave of Canterbury Cathedral. It will be in memory of my sister. She sang in the Canterbury Choral Society and died last year. It will be just over a year since last year's tragedy. I wrote about that in last year's travel Blog when my sister and brother in law passed away. See:2023 Travel Blog
Here is a picture of my nephews and neices taken recently when they attended the Last Night of the Proms in memory of their mother (my sister).
Anyhow - if you would like to follow along this hedonistic trip please check the link from time to time.
As always this Blog for me is a way of remembering and having a permanent record sights and activities.
Enjoy!
Shaun
